Frigid temps push Compassion Center to make more room for homeless

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - "I think each year we're seeing more and more homeless people," Pastor William Holloway of the Little Rock Compassion Center explains.

The Compassion Center is preparing for the bone chilling temperatures expected to hit central Arkansas this coming weekend. Pastor Holloway continues, "We got 200 beds and when we run out of beds we got a hundred mats and then we can put another hundred on the kitchen floor in the dining area and have another hundred people with just blankets and pillows."

In weather like this, medical doctors urge people to take precaution. Dr. Wendell Pahls of Baptist Health Medical Center says, "It can be very dangerous particularly for people in the south when they're unaccustomed to being exposed to cold weather. You can freeze to death in 30 degree weather. It depends on the persons survival skills. It depends on the amount of body fat they have. It depends on the type of clothing."
