Weekend lane closures will impact traffic at Big Rock Interchange

LITTLE ROCK (3-26) – Construction work will require weekend lane closures and detours at the Interstate 430/630 “Big Rock” Interchange in Little Rock, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

Crews will be installing steel beams on the new bridge over Shackleford Road. The following routes will be affected.

LITTLE ROCK (AHTD) – The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) has withdrawn ten construction projects from its planned list of projects scheduled for award in April as a result of the uncertainty of Federal-aid reimbursements available from the Federal Highway Trust Fund.  

The United State Department of Transportation has projected that the Federal Highway Trust Fund will run short of funds as early as July of this year without Congressional action.  Because of this uncertainty, the AHTD has evaluated State and Federal funding that will be available and reduced the number of construction projects planned because of the possible inability of the Federal Highway Trust Fund to provide timely and full reimbursements to Arkansas.

The ten Federal-aid projects that have been pulled from the Department’s April bid letting total approximately $60 million and include:

Chicot – Hwy 165; Rehabilitation of 4.3 miles

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (LR) - On Friday, March 14, 2014 beginning at 7:00 AM, North Hughes Street between Cantrell Road and Kavanaugh Place will be closed to through traffic for approximately two months to allow the installation of utilities in association with the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department’s Cantrell Road widening project. Barricades and detour signage will be installed to inform motorists of the closure.

Sign going up at Big Rock Interchange will cause delays

LITTLE ROCK (AHTD) – Sign replacement will require a lane closure on Interstate 430 in Little Rock, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

Crews will be replacing a sign on the Shackleford Road overpass. The work will reduce Interstate 430 northbound traffic to one lane.

The closure will be Tuesday night, February 25th, through Wednesday morning, February 26th between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.

This work had been scheduled for Wednesday February 19th, but had to be postponed due to high winds.

LITTLE ROCK (AHTD) – Improvements to Interstate 40 will require night lane closures in Faulkner and Pulaski Counties, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

Crews are preparing to widen Interstate 40 between Palarm Creek, which is located near the Pulaski/Faulkner County line and Highway 365, which is located near the Morgan/Maumelle exit. This work will require the installation of a temporary concrete wall. During the installation time, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction.

LITTLE ROCK (AHTD) – Research work on Interstate 40 will require a lane closure near North Little Rock, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

Crews will perform drilling operations to test the soil beneath the driving surface.

It will require closing the Interstate 40 westbound inside lane between mile markers 145 and 146. That’s located just west of the Interstate 40/430 interchange.  The lane closure will be Friday, January 24th, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.

The work is being conducted in preparation for widening Interstate 40 to six lanes between Highway 365 and Interstate 430. This includes modifying the Interstate 430 interchange. This work is scheduled for bid later this year.
