Dance flash mob hits Promenade

Little Rock, Ark. (September 4, 2012) – A flash mob of nearly 200 dancers took to the Main Street of The Promenade at Chenal surprising visitors over Labor Day weekend. The choreographed dance was developed by a team of professional dancers at Ballet Arkansas in an effort to kick-off the 2012-13 dance performance season and promote local support for the arts.

A Flash Mob is a pre-choreographed dance or movement that is performed as a large group in a predetermined public space, beginning with a few dancers that appear to spread among the crowd, creating a giant, spontaneous public spectacle of unified musical expression, then suddenly dispersing as if nothing happened. The 5-minute long Ballet Arkansas routine began with circa 1962 Contours “Do You Love Me” and transitioned through several American classics such as “Old Time Rock & Roll” by Bob Seger then finished with a modern day rendition of “Back In Time” by Pitbull. “Ballet Arkansas exists to connect the people of Arkansas with the art form of dance and that’s exactly what this Flash Mob did. This non-traditional performance got the community involved with Ballet Arkansas’ professional dancers and helped to kick off our 2012-13 season”, said Lauren Strother, Ballet Arkansas Executive Director.

“The Promenade at Chenal wanted to partner with Ballet Arkansas for this exciting event in an effort to create awareness for our local arts. We are so lucky to have such talent right here in Little Rock, like the amazing dancers at Ballet Arkansas. We feel it’s important to support local organizations and hope that this Flash Mob will encourage people to support the Ballet and the arts in Arkansas”, said Bethany Siems, The Promenade at Chenal Marketing Coordinator.
