Joe T. Robinson Middle School student shines at state swim meet!

JOE T. ROBINSON MIDDLE SCHOOL student McKenzie Tucker competed this past weekend in the 2013 Arkansas State Championship Swim Meet held in Fort Smith, Ark. She went in as a top seed for the 50 meter freestyle and remains the top seed by winning first place in the girls 11-12 age group. McKenzie came home with four medals: 1- gold, 2 - silver, and 1 - bronze!

Also, McKenzie achieved a National AAA time in the 50 meter freestyle to qualify for the Central Zone Swimming Championships representing Team Arkansas this weekend, August 2 – 4, in Topeka, Kan.

Congratulations McKenzie and good luck in Kansas!

Divine Secrets of the Ta-Ta Sisterhood at Skate World

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. --  On Saturday, May 18, the Big Dam Rollers of Central Arkansas Roller Derby will take on the Tornado Alley Rollergirls of Oklahoma in a bout called The Divine Secrets of the Ta-Ta Sisterhood. The game will also serve as an art auction and fundraising avenue for Fighting Fancy, an organization providing beauty products to women ages 15 to 39 undergoing chemotherapy.

A portion of the proceeds from the door and the art auction will go to Fighting Fancy. Admission is $10. Children 12 and under get in free.

Drinks and concessions will be available for purchase at the snack bar during this event. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; bout begins at 7 p.m. Come early and choose a seat on the floor for an up close view of the action. Roller derby is a family-friendly sport.

AHSCA announces 2013 All-Star basketball coaches

CONWAY, Ark. (AHSCA) - The president of the Arkansas High School Coaches Association, Scott Kelton of Blevins, announced the head basketball coaches and their staffs for the 2013 East-West Arkansas Army National Guard/Arkansas High School Coaches Association Girls and Boys All-Star teams as selected by their fellow coaches here at a press conference on the University of Central Arkansas campus.

UCA athletic director Dr. Brad Teague welcomed the members of the AHSCA, the 2013 All-Star coaches and media representatives during the morning press conference.

The head coach for the East girls will be Jay Cook of Paragould and the head coach of the East boys will be Johnny Rice of North Little Rock. The West girls head coach will be Charles Berry of Huntsville and the head coach of the West boys will be Shane Thurman of Pottsville.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- March 16 at 7pm at Little Rock SkateWorld, the Big Dam Rollers (BDR) of Central Arkansas Roller Derby (CARD) will encounter a new foe, the Benton County Derby Dames from Northwest Arkansas.  Portions of the proceeds from this bout benefit the Ronald McDonald House.  Admission is $10 for adults; kids 10 and under are free.

Hide your pot of gold and save the green for St. Patrick’s Day!   Saturday is all about the color teal and a touch o’derby.  Come watch the ladies of BDR best our fellow Arkansans in a battle of blocking and scoring.  A portion of the door proceeds go to support the Ronal McDonald House.  Drinks and concessions will be available for purchase at the snack bar during this event.  Doors open at 6:30pm; come early and choose a seat on the floor for an up close view of all the action.  Jigs and reels are encouraged.

Helping Hand to hold 'Walk, Run or Wheel' 5K at Big Dam Bridge

Helping Hand is hosting a 5k at the Big Dam Bridge on May 11. It is called the Helping Hand "Walk, Run or Wheel" for Special Needs 5k  & 2k Fun Run.
