MOMcation is an all-inclusive retreat for moms and moms-to-be. It is held April 28-May1 at Heifer Ranch near Perryville Arkansas. Atlanta Falcons player to address the Boys and Girls Club

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Little Rock native and NFL defensive end Jamaal Anderson will make an appearance at the James H. Penick Boys and Girls Club on Friday, March 4, 2011.

A former Penick Club kid, Anderson credits the Boys and Girls Club for changing his life and has a message for the current members.  “I want to talk to the kids about the importance of staying in school and doing your best every day.  When I went to the Boys and Girls Club, I learned teamwork, responsibility and positive competitiveness. It changed my life forever”.

Anderson started at the Penick Club in 1992 at the age of 6 and played both basketball and baseball for the club. 

Jamaal was originally a wide receiver for Parkview Arts and Science Magnet High School in Little Rock.

Survival workshops are being offered Saturday, Feb. 26 at Pinnacle Mountain State Park:

9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. -- Map and Compass Workshop. Find your way in the woods with Park Interpreter Susan. Learn how to read maps, how to use a compass, and get an introduction to pacing. After a quick break for lunch, head out on an orienteering course for a chance to try out your new navigation skills. Come prepared for very rugged off-trail hiking with sturdy shoes, appropriate clothing, and plenty of water. Meet at Visitor Center. Cost is $15.

2-4:30 p.m. -- Firestarting Workshop. Park Interpreters Christina and Susan are celebrating the park’s third consecutive year of prescribed burning with a chance for you to learn survival firestarting.

Soccer showcase starts Saturday

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Little Rock Futbol Club (LRFC) is hosting the 5th Annual Showcase of the South. This year’s event for U15-U19 soccer teams will be played on Jan. 29 – 30 at Burns Park, the site of the 2008 USYSA National Championships. The showcase provides club teams an exhibition style environment in which college coaches from around the country can view future college-bound players.

This year’s event will feature approximately 2,200 players from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Tennessee, Texas, Kansas, Illinois, Louisiana, Nebraska, Indiana, Alabama, and Mississippi.
