City approves Taylor Loop gas station

City approves Taylor Loop gas station

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - A controversial proposed gas station at the intersection of Taylor Loop and Highway 10 in Little Rock got the green light to move forward from the city board on Monday.

The city board took a vote on the proposed 20-pump station and approved the ordinance by a vote of 7-to-3.

THV11 spoke with Samantha Chaney before Monday's meeting, and she's been heavily involved in the effort to mobilize people in opposition of the gas station.

"We know that we tried our best and we spent hours and hours fighting this and whatever happens I can know that we had a huge team and we put tons of effort into it and so, if we lose, we didn't lay down and lose," said Chaney.

The city board heard public comment on this ordinance for the better part of an hour, not including all the time spent deliberating among board members over various aspects of the proposal.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Beverly Carter's murder has renewed the debate over the state of Arkansas' parole system.

Her accused killer, Arron Lewis, was on parole and is not the first Arkansas parolee to be accused of murder in the last couple years.

The state Department of Community Correction today told THV11 Lewis was a "pretty good parolee", reporteing to his parole officer regularly, passing all his drug tests and paying all his fees. Some say that is even more reason to tighten the state's parole laws.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - One of 3 questions voters might see on the November ballot this year could make alcohol sales legal in all 75 Arkansas counties.

Even if voters approve that measure, there will still be lots of work to do at state and local levels to implement the plan.

Arkansas Business Online Editor Lance Turner says officials are already making plans.

Michael Langley, the director of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Division, tells Arkansas Business that he's already been thinking through the possible new law.

If voters do approve the Arkansas Alcoholic Beverage Amendment he's got a plan of action on tap to implement the law, which would go into effect on July 1.
