Joey the Garden Cat surgery update

Joey the Garden Cat surgery update

We have another Joey the Garden Cat health update. In case you haven't heard, Joey has a rare form of bone cancer in his left back leg. The good news is that it is localized and has not spread.

Joey's vet, Dr. Bob Hale of Briarwood Animal Hospital in Little Rock has been working with Dr. Terry Dew of Azzore Veterinary Specialists in Russellville.

"After discussions with oncologist Dr. David Vail, at the School of Veterinary Medicine in Madison, Wis., and with Joey's momma/agent and other staff at KTHV, a decision has been made on what course of treatment to pursue for Joey," Dew says.

"On Monday, we will remove the tumor and affected bone, preserving Joey's leg.

Joey the Garden Cat health update

On Thursday, April 5th we took Joey the Garden Cat to his veterinarian Dr. Bob Hale of Briarwood Animal Hospital for what we thought was an injured front paw.  While x-raying it they discovered a growth on his back leg.

Dr. Hale reached out to his friend Dr. Terry Dew with Azzore Veterinary Specialist in Russellville.  Dr. Dew is the only board certified small animal surgeon in the state of Arkansas.

Joey was taken to Russellville on April 9th where he took a CT scan of the tumor and discovered it originated from the bone so he took a biopsy. We should have the results of the pathology report next week.

You can go to Joey's page on Dr. Dew's website to see the scans as he posts them.

We’ll keep you updated on Joey’s progress and thank you for all the well wishes.

Kris is a Lab mix, and is approximately 3 years old. He came to the shelter as a stray a few months ago, and would like nothing more than to be in a loving home. Kris is your typical friendly Lab mix, who pretty much loves the world. He’s very content to just sit and be loved on, or he can turn up his energy level for a good game chase.. If Kris looks and sounds like a dog that might fit into your family, head on out to the shelter for a meet & greet!

Kris is at our shelter on 14600 Colonel Glenn Road in Little Rock.  Phone number is 227-6166.   www.warmhearts.or
