ASMSA opens Class of 2018 admissions cycle

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts has officially launched the search for the Class of 2018.
Students apply to ASMSA through a competitive admissions process that evaluates high school coursework, ACT/SAT scores, responses to essay questions, letters of recommendation and other accomplishments.  Finalist candidates are invited to attend Interview Weekends in April.  The process is similar to application at selective colleges and universities.
Students must submit their completed online application, test scores, and letters of recommendation no later than March 1, 2016.

Pulaski Tech students receives $14,000 in culinary scholarships

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Seven Pulaski Technical College students have received a combined $14,000 in scholarships from the Arkansas Hospitality Association.

All of the students attend PTC's Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Institute. Each receives a $2,000 award for the 2015-16 school year.

Dale Brooks, of Mayflower, received the Bed & Breakfast Association of Arkansas Scholarship.

Rachel Nelson of Perryville, received the Tim Mathis Memorial Scholarship, presented to an outstanding student with a committment to the hospitality industry. The award is presented by Mr. and Mrs. Rusty Mathis in memory of their son, Tim Mathis.

Back to school youth conference

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - On September 12, 2015 Arkansas Stop the Violence will be having a Back to School Youth Conference at Greater Trinity, located at 2400 Wright Ave. at 6:30 p.m.

The purpose of this event is to show people the good that our children are doing and to try to show them the importance of education, being on task and trying to be successful in life.

Los Lonely Boys, Keb' Mo' to headline Hot Springs Blues and BBQ Festival

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The Hot Springs Blues & BBQ Festival, presented by Budweiser, will be headlined by the Los Lonely Boys Saturday, Sept. 19 and Keb’ Mo’ Sunday, Sept. 20. The event, hosted jointly by Oaklawn and the Spa City Blues Society, will take place in Oaklawn’s infield, and will also feature some of the region’s best barbeque.

“We are very excited to bring the Los Lonely Boys and Keb’ Mo’ to Hot Springs,” said Rob Pratt, President of the Spa City Blues Society. “Partnering with Oaklawn has really allowed us to take this event to a whole new level.”

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - In partnership with the Arkansas Arts Council, Artist INC and the Argenta Arts Foundation, Mid-America Arts Alliance (M-AAA) is now accepting applications from artists of all disciplines for Artist INC Live Argenta.

Artist INC Live Argenta is a ground-breaking program that will empower you to take control of your career and create opportunities you've only imagined. Limited to 25 participants, artists gather once a week for eight weeks to learn business
skills specific to their art practice and apply those skills cooperatively with their peers.

Mobile Command Center offers free services to vets at Pulaski Tech

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ak. - The Regional Veteran Affairs Mobile Command Veteran Center will be at Pulaski Technical College's Main Campus from 8 am.to noon on Friday, August 21, to provide clinical, social and administrative services to veterans.

The unit will be parked by the Campus Center on the Main Campus, 3000 West Scenic Drive. More than 500 veterans attend PTC; however, services are available to all veterans.

The services are part of a three-day orientation for vets who will be attending PTC this fall or in the future.
