IPDRA working to finish rebuilding what the storm left behind

MAYFLOWER, Ark. (KTHV) – The central Arkansas community still needs the help of lending hands following April’s deadly tornado. One organization is working in coordination with the Vilonia Disaster Recovery Alliance and the Faulkner County Long-Term Recovery Board to get volunteers out to these devastated areas of the state in an effort to help finish rebuilding what the storm left behind.

Inter-Faith and Partners Disaster Recovery Alliance (IPDRA) is made up of several faith-based and voluntary organizations that are working together to secure volunteers, material resources, and funding to meet the needs of others living in Faulkner County and beyond.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - A new restaurant chain has opened in the capital city.

'Potbelly Sandwich Shop' announced it was coming to Little Rock last month and officially opened for business this week.

The shop offers sandwiches, soups, shakes and smoothies, and the owner says they're excited to be here.

"This is a great location we're really excited to be right in the middle of town and in the middle of all the shopping, and all the hospitals and all the restaurants. Everything right here in Midtowne Little Rock, couldn't be a more perfect place," said Julia Hamra, franchise owner.

It's located at Park Avenue on South University in Midtowne. This is the restaurant's first location in Arkansas.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV)- After nearly 8 years of planning and construction, the Little Rock's Firehouse Hostel is nearly complete.

Developers John Fordyce and Greg Hart told THV that the exterior work is done and electrical work will finish up in October meaning the main goal is furnishing the inside of the hostel. "The beds will have a full size on the bottom and then these here are for stacking," said Hart. "It's not like a regular hotel. It's not meant to be a hotel."

(HMA) - The Hillcrest Merchants Association is ready for our October 4th, HarvestFest, voted Arkansas Times Best of Arkansas for best neighborhood festival and included in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette as one of the Top Five festivals in Arkansas. This is the merchants’ yearly fall celebration for children and families.  The main street in Hillcrest, Kavanaugh, will be closed from Walnut Street to Monroe Street. HarvestFest festivities start at 7:00 A.M. and street activities start at 11:00 A.M. include the following:

North Little Rock farm to hold fundraising event at White Water Tavern

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – In an effort to educate Arkansans on sustainable agricultural practices, St. Joseph Farmin North Little Rock is holding an event at The White Water Tavern in Little Rock Wednesday night, beginning at 7 p.m., to promote the St. Joseph Farm Fest as well as educate those present on how they can contribute to the October festival.

St. Joseph recently established a GoFundMe campaign, with a goal of raising $6,000 toward making the festival a huge success in its first year as well as sustain the festival for future years.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (CTF) -- After months of rehearsals, local “stars” will demonstrate their dance moves at the seventh annual Red Carpet for Research event "Dancing with Our Stars," on Thursday, September 11, 2014. Hosted by the Arkansas Chapter of the Children's Tumor Foundation, the evening will take place at the Statehouse Convention Center's Governors Hall IV located at 101 East Markham Street in Little Rock and will raise funds for the Children's Tumor Foundation. “Our Stars” are community leaders that will be paired with local dance instructors to compete for one of two coveted mirror ball trophies. Attendees can vote online ahead of the event at http://grow.ctf.org/RedCarpet2014Voting or in person. The evening will include complimentary pictures on the red carpet, a reception, a seated dinner, and dancing.
