Rep opens "A Raisin in the Sun"

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The Arkansas Repertory Theatre’s production of “A Raisin in the Sun” opens today and runs through Feb. 6.

Lorraine Hansberry's celebrated drama tells the story of an African-American family living on Chicago's south side in the 1950s. Recently widowed, Lena Younger receives a life insurance check for $10,000 and plans to buy a house for her family, freeing them from the cramped tenement she shares with her two children, daughter-in-law and grandson. Her son Walter Lee has other ideas.

Showtimes are 7 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sundays. Ticket prices start at $20. To purchase click here.

CONWAY, Ark. (AETN) — The Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) and UALR Public Radio/KUAR FM 89.1 invite the public to a free screening of “For Once in My Life” as part of Community Cinema Monday, Jan. 31, at 6 p.m. at Roosevelt Thompson Library in Little Rock.

The film, directed by Mark Moormann and produced by Jim Bigham, explores the struggles and triumphs, and the healing power of music, as the bands members’ unique talents are nurtured to challenge the world’s perceptions. “For Once in My Life” features 28 members of the Spirit of Goodwill Band, all living with varying degrees of physical and mental challenges. The film follows the Spirit of the Goodwill as they prepare for the U.S. Mayor’s Convention that will feature an audience of over 1,000 and highlights the arduous process that becomes a test of patience, compassion and faith.

The screening will be held in Roosevelt Thompson Library located on 38 Rahling Circle off Chenal Parkway in Little Rock.

Auditions for Pulaski Academy's 33rd Annual Talent Showcase will be held Sunday, January 9, beginning at 1 p.m. in Connor Performing Arts Center. Turn in your completed application and attached fee to the Lower, Middle or Upper School Offices by 12 p.m. noon on Wednesday, January 5.

Any student in grades 1-12 may audition. Each act must have at least one PA student. Group and individual acts are welcome. For example, if a PA student is in a band with students who attend other schools, the band is eligible to perform. More...
