Pink Floyd tribute band Set the Controls brings 'Great Gig' to LR!

Pink Floyd tribute band Set the Controls brings 'Great Gig' to LR!

Anyone who has ever been brought to the point of weeping from the awesome beauty of a Pink Floyd (or any classic rock) song, must have been watching a live performance of Set the Controls, formerly called Eclipse, a nationally touring and widely respected PInk Floyd tribute band returning to Revolution Music Room this Saturday, April 9.

Set the Controls has five members, including Kathie Hull on backup vocals. This woman can roar, and she absolutely does on "Great Gig in the Sky" off "Dark Side of the Moon" — it's so unbelievably dead-on and so powerful a performance every time, you won't soon forget it, if you ever do.

Afroman performs tonight in Little Rock

Afroman performs tonight in Little Rock

It's hard to believe Afroman's global hit "Because I Got High" is 10 years old, but it is.

It actually was released on Afroman's second album, in 2000, before widely circulating the Internet. Then it was played on "The Howard Stern Show," and the rest is history, as its subsequent use in the films "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back," "The Perfect Score" and "Disturbia" helped propel the Mississippi-based rapper to stardom. Before long, Afroman was nominated for a Grammy in 2002, and "Because I Got High" won the Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance.

Since then, Afroman has released music mostly through the Internet as an independent, garnering a number of big hits via iTunes and other online music services.

Tanaia Esaw: America's Next Top Model?

By Dawon Johnson (published in The Vision Magazine Spring Issue)

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Arkansas has produced two “America’s Next Top Model” winners, and it could be home to a third. Well, if the show is on-air for 10 more years. That’s when Tanaia Esaw, an eight-year-old model from Little Rock, will be eligible for the highly rated reality show.

“I think I’m the best model. When I come out on the stage everybody screams my name,” says Esaw. “I understand when I’m doing good, because people scream out ‘go on girl’ and ‘you better work that stage.’ Modeling makes me feel very happy. It is my life.”

Esaw, a second-grader at Romaine Elementary School, got her start modeling in the summer 2009 at the inaugural Little Rock Fashion Week (LRFW). Since her debut, she has appeared in several fashion shows, a commercial and the Martin Luther King Jr. Marade.
